Dorchester Choral Society is an amateur community choir but it is also an audition choir.

You will be given an audition time with Christine Page (Director of Music)
Do I have to sight read?
Yes, everyone must be able to read music at least to a basic level.
What does being a choir member mean?
  • Attending all rehearsals in the United Church, Dorchester on Monday evenings from 7.30 to 9.15 p.m.
  • Choir members are asked not to miss more that 3 (three) rehearsals in any concert period. Choir members who need to take more time out for work, health or holiday reasons are asked to discuss this with the Director of Music, Christine Page
  • Participating in all concerts unless there is a really good reason.
  • Music is borrowed from the library unless you wish to buy it yourself.
  • Black folders are used for concerts
  • Ladies wear long black for all concerts with a gold scarf on appropriate occasions.
  • Gentlemen wear dinner jackets and bow tie.
  • An annual subscription is payable by all members to cover the running costs of the choir. It is currently £90, non refundable, whatever your attendance throughout the year.The subscription cost is reviewed annually.
    New choir members are given 4 weeks to try out the choir before being asked to commit to paying their subscriptions.
  • A committee of 12 members manages the detailed work of the choir, including social occasions, and all members are asked to help in various ways as they can.
  • The Annual General Meeting is held in the autumn.
